Trash Talk Tuesday

Follow us on Instagram to catch every Trash Talk Tuesday!

In order to be collected for free, cardboard must be broken down and placed in a tied blue bag. In the Truckee service area, cardboard may be placed in the mixed recycling program blue cart.

Customers may take cardboard, to local community recycling containers or the Material Recovery Facility at 900 Cabin Creek Road to drop off for free during business hours, Mon-Sat 8an-4pm. Commercial customers who regularly generate large quantities of cardboard may sign up for TTSD’s commercial cardboard recycling program. Weekly commercial cardboard dumpster service is available. Cardboard must be clean and free of contaminants to qualify for the program.

Free Residential cardboard drop-off locations: Truckee Town Hall (10183 Truckee Airport Rd), Truckee Sheriff’s Station (10879 Donner Pass Rd), Northstar (Village Parking Lot), and Eastern Regional Landfill (900 Cabin Creek Rd, during business hours)

Have a mattress? Please visit bye-bye-mattress for drop-off information in your area. Contaminated mattresses posing a health or safety hazard are not eligible for recycling through the program. Eastern Regional Landfill accepts program eligible mattresses and box springs for free May through October, Monday-Saturday, 8am-4pm. Proof of California residency is required, each mattress or box spring counts as a unit, the daily unit maximum is four.

In addition to recycling, we encourage everyone to “reduce and reuse.” One person’s trash is another’s treasure. Before you discard that sofa, try to find a home for it through one of the local charitable groups or online marketplaces interested in those items.

Residential customers may schedule certain large items to be picked up curbside for a fee (200lbs or less) with advanced request by calling 530-583-7800.  Estimated prepayment will be collected upon order, actual charges will be reflected on the next quarterly billing statement. Certain residential jurisdictions may sponsor free bulky item pickup programs, please call for details.
