Trash Talk Tuesday

Episode 2: Cardboard

Hey everyone and welcome to Trash Talk Tuesday. Today we’re going to talk about cardboard and what’s considered recyclable versus non-recyclable cardboard.

Cardboard is considered recyclable when it is clean and dry. Cardboard cannot be recycled when it is wax-coated, wet, or exposed to food waste. This cardboard is what we call contaminated, and it must be thrown away in your regular trash.

We require that all cardboard be placed inside blue bags because otherwise it runs the risk of becoming contaminated by food waste and moisture. To ensure that your cardboard is recycled effectively, first collapse any cardboard, making sure to remove any styrofoam, plastics, or other packing material. Then place your cardboard in a clean and dry blue bag. Finally, make sure to tie your blue bag securely.

So please treat your cardboard as you would treat your other recyclables and place them together inside your blue bag or your blue cart. Thanks.
