π» Self-haul Free Drop-off Program
Program Details
TTSD Residents* get 6 yards of free disposal for the 2026 drop-off season at the Eastern Regional Landfill (900 Cabin Creek Rd) during normal business hours.
- π± Go Digital: Generate a QR code for yourself or your landscaper/helper. Show the QR code at the scale house to skip the paperwork.
- π Just Show Up: Proof of residency is required at the scale house without a QR code.

- π Tarp Your Load: All loads must be covered on public roadways. It’s the law and keeps our mountain roads clean!

- Best For: Major defensible space clearing, large property clean-ups, or residents without a truck/trailer.
- Availability:

- The Deal: Residents may rent up to two 6-yard dumpsters per season at a significantly discounted “Green Waste Only” rate.
- Strict Rule: π« Zero Contamination. These containers are for organic yard waste only. Dirt, rock, sod, or trash in the dumpster will result in full-price garbage rates.

- Step 1: Review and complete the online debris box waiver.
- Step 2: Confirm your space. Youβll need a flat, clear area for the truck to drop the bin.
- Step 3: Choose your timing. Most rentals are for a 7-day period.

For residents in the Truckee Fire Protection District use these programs to keep your property fire-safe without leaving your driveway.

Truckee Fire District: “Measure T” Curbside
Best for: Large piles of woody debris from defensible space clearing.
- The Program: A community-funded service where “You stack it, they haul it.” Designed specifically for heavy-duty fuel reduction.
- How it Works: Residents within the Truckee Fire Protection District can request a reservation online. Once confirmed, stack your woody material at the curb according to their pile-size guidelines.
- Acceptable: Tree limbs, brush, and woody biomass.
- Not Accepted: π« No pine needles, bagged material, or stumps.

Town of Truckee: 96-Gallon Green Carts
Best for: Routine yard maintenance, pine needles, and garden waste.
- The Schedule: Bi-weekly curbside collection for residential customers within town limits, running from April 1st through November 30th.
- The Rules: All material must fit inside the cart with the lid closed.
- Pro-Tip: π« Strictly NO plastic bags or trash. Materials must be loose in the cart to prevent contamination. Even “compostable” bags are not allowed.

It is organic yard debris like pine needles, grass clippings, branches, and garden waste. It is not food waste, pet waste, or lumber.
Yes! Log into the Digital Green Waste Portal and generate a QR code specifically for your helper. They show it at the scale, and the yardage is deducted from your balance.
Yes! Residents (owners or tenants) qualify. If you don’t have a bill in your name, log into the Digital Green Waste Portal or bring a copy of the TTSD bill for the property.
Keep them separate! If green waste is mixed with trash, the whole load is charged at the standard Garbage rate.
You can still drop off green waste all season long! Once your 6-yard allotment is reached, you will simply be charged the current residential green waste rate at the scale.
Yes. For safety and efficiency, all residential customers are responsible for unloading their own vehicles in the designated drop-off zone.
Our equipment is designed to grind organic wood and needles into compost. Rocks and dirt damage the grinders and contaminate the final compost product.
Our equipment grinds this material into high-quality compost. Plastic bags (even ‘compostable’ ones) contaminate the soil and can damage the grinder.
