Blue Bag Program

The Blue Bag program is a voluntary and simple recycling program available to Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal customers. Residents may place all dry, clean recyclable materials in blue plastic bags for free collection. The bag should be placed beside your garbage can on your normal garbage service day, do not place blue bags in a can. The recyclables in the Blue Bag will be collected and processed at the Materials Recovery Facility located at the Eastern Regional Landfill/Transfer Station Facility (the MRF) on Cabin Creek Road in Truckee. As a reminder, the MRF sorts all materials for applicable recyclables – for more information please visit One Big Bin.

Where to Get the Blue Bags

Look for Blue Bags sold locally at hardware stores or online. To qualify for the program, bags must be blue and sealed/tied. If the contents of the bag do not qualify as recyclable material, the bag will be counted as regular garbage. If the blue bag is placed inside of a can, it will be counted as garbage. Optionally, customers may take items of large size or quantity, such as cardboard, to local community recycling containers or the Material Recovery Facility.
