California Residents
California residents seeking more than $100 in refund value must show proof of California residency: Valid California Drivers License AND valid California License plates.
California residents may redeem their recyclable items at the Buyback Center, subject to the following guidelines:
– The containers are made of aluminum, plastic, glass or bi-metal
– The container has been opened
– Plastic bottle caps have been removed
– Contamination has been removed
– The CRV message is on the container
– The containers were purchased in California and did not leave and re-enter California
– The containers are specified by Calrecycle as eligible for CRV reimbursement
By law, you can bring up to 50 aluminum, 50 glass, 50 plastic, and 50 bi-metal California Redemption Value (CRV) containers in a single visit and request to be paid by count. You will be paid the full CRV redemption of 5 cents or 10 cents on each container. Inform the site attendant of your load content and how you would like to receive payment before you hand over your load.
If recycling more than 50 containers of any one material type, the decision to pay by count or weight is determined by the recycling center operator. Make sure your containers are whole and free of contaminants such as dirt, excessive liquid or other foreign substances. If you are being paid by weight, make sure the load contains only eligible CRV beverage containers.
The daily load limits for California vehicles are:
Aluminum cans 100 lbs
#1 PET Plastic bottles 100 lbs
#2 HDPE Plastic Bottles 100 lbs
Glass beverage bottles 1000 lbs
If a load of any material exceeding the allowable weight limit is offered for redemption, the Buyback Center will not pay more than SCRAP value for the entire load. For example, if a customer arrives with 140 lbs of CRV aluminum cans, the load will be rejected or paid as scrap only. It is against regulations to pay 99 lbs for refund value and the remaining 41 lbs for scrap value.
Two or three people in one vehicle may NOT individually sell material exceeding the daily allowable weight limits. Only one transaction is allowed per vehicle per day.
Please keep in mind, our staff does not make the Buyback Center rules, as a certified Calrecycle CRV Buyback center, we MUST adhere to the rules as directed by Calrecycle.
