Does This Apply to My Business?
If your business:
- generates 2 or more cubic yards of any solid waste per week 🗑️.
- handles food waste, i.e. restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, etc.
If this sounds like your business, you’re in the right place!
What’s Required?
If your business handles food or organic waste and generates 2+ cubic yards of waste per week, you must:
- Separate food waste such as fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy from other trash 🥕🍗.
- Dispose of the separated food waste in your designated food waste bin or dumpster.
All of this is part of the Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling Program – and it’s included with your regular collection service!
Exemptions
Your business may qualify for an exemption if:
- Your business generates less than ½ cubic yard of organic waste per week 🗑️ (about the size of three full 32-gallon trash cans).
- You don’t handle or serve food on-site (e.g., offices, retail shops).
- You self-haul food or organic waste to an approved facility and keep detailed records.
½ a cubic yard of organic waste is equivalent to 3 full 32-gallon cans
